There will be a sporty and fresh opening of New Nordic Films on August 18th, with the Polish-Swedish film Sweat.
Magnus von Horn made his debut in 2015 with The Here After, and in his second film he explores social media and the emotional connection that is made between influencers and their followers. Sylwia Zając is a fitness motivator, whose presence on social media has made her a celebrity. Although she has hundreds of thousands of followers, is surrounded by loyal employees and admired by acquaintances, she is looking for true intimacy. It’s refreshing to see a film that, instead of engaging in some easy social media bashing, just coolly observes it all, much like one of Sylwia’s many, many followers, making it seem like what it ultimately is: a job, a full-time gig, actually, with Sylwia posting every other minute and still making it look natural. In his delicious sophomore film, Magnus von Horn explores the kind of access and emotional connection that’s as addictive as it is confusing. At least to Sylwia’s stalker, parked outside her house.
The opening ceremony takes place Tuesday 18th at 7:30 pm.
